Jericho Books announces imprint acquisitions and launch publication schedule
(Nashville, TN) – Jericho Books, a new imprint of Hachette Book Group, is pleased to announce its launch publication program. The first three books on the imprint will publish in the fall of this year.
“Publishing books by some the most significant voices in the Christian community today is truly a dream come true,” says Wendy Grisham, Publisher and Vice President for Jericho Books. “I am delighted to be able to work alongside authors who are speaking hope and healing to those in the Church who may have been wounded or feel like they don’t fit the traditional model. The wisdom and grace these women and men share in all areas of life as they relate to our faith is truly astounding.”
The first book published will be Why Did Jesus, Moses, the Buddha and Mohammed Cross the Road? Christian Identity in a Multi-Faith World by Brian McLaren in September 2012. Brian McLaren is a respected author, thinker, activist, and theologian. In this new book Brian seeks to put an end to interfaith conflict and evaluates the core tenants of the Christian faith to reveal a Christian identity that is both powerfully individual and benevolent to other faiths.
Selling Water by the River: A Book About the Life Jesus Promised and the Religion that Gets in the Way by Shane Hipps will publish in October 2012. Shane Hipps is a teaching pastor at Mars Hill Bible Church in Grand Rapids, MI. In this book Shane seeks to separate the reality of Jesus from the religion that bears His name and which has occasionally built the biggest barriers to Him. Shane deconstructs religion to reveal how Jesus taught that the heaven we long for isn’t just a gift for us when we die, but a gift while we live.
In November 2012, Jericho will publish a moving book by Justin Lee titled Torn: Rescuing the Gospel from the Gays vs. Christians Debate. Justin, a conservative evangelical Christian and founder of The Gay Christian Network, addresses one of the most controversial topics in the Church. Justin shares his personal story and his love of faith while weaving in Biblical exegeses and suggestions for how the Church can be more welcoming of the LGBT community.
Books to publish in early 2013 include: When Spiritual but not Religious is not Enough by Lillian Daniel (January 2013), Faith, Doubt and Other Lines I’ve Crossed by Jay Bakker (February 2013) and Snake Oil: The Art of Healing and Truth-Telling by Becca Stevens (March 2013).
The mission of Jericho Books is to seek innovative authors who reflect a growing change in the church. These non-traditional voices will appeal to the fresh perspectives in today’s culture and provide an avenue for those exploring political, social, and controversial issues as they relate to faith.
